Methodology
MCP Atlas is an independent index. Our rule: show what sources say, show where it came from, and say “unknown” when we don’t know.
Primary source
Listings come from the official MCP Registry public API (v0.1). We request version=latest with cursor pagination for the initial import, then use updated_since for incremental updates on a schedule. Progress is saved after every page so interrupted runs resume where they stopped.
Normalization & deduplication
Each entry is keyed by its canonical registry name (e.g. io.github.owner/server). Repository URLs are normalized to a canonical github.com/owner/repo key so the same project can be matched across sources. Descriptions are stripped to plain text; links are kept only if they are public http(s) URLs.
Verified
“Verified” means the entry is active in the official MCP Registry, which requires namespace-authenticated publishing (GitHub, DNS or HTTP proof). It is not a security audit.
GitHub metadata
Stars, license, primary language and last push are fetched from the GitHub REST API only for repositories explicitly linked from a registry entry or our curated list. Requests respect rate limits; values not yet fetched are shown as unknown — never estimated.
Client compatibility
Compatibility with Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Gemini, Grok, Mistral and Perplexity is shown as unknown unless verified with evidence. We distinguish native support (the client connects directly) from support via middleware (a bridge or proxy is required).
Categories
Categories are assigned automatically by matching keywords in the publisher’s name and description. They are a browsing aid and may be imperfect.
Other directories
Smithery, Glama, PulseMCP, MCP.so, Docker MCP and mcpservers.org are only ingested through a published, authorized API or feed. We do not scrape pages against terms of service or bypass anti-bot protections. See Sources for each adapter’s state.
Security
MCP Atlas never executes third-party server code. Ingestion only contacts fixed, allow-listed API hosts. The public site is read-only; synchronization and moderation require administrator authorization.
Advertising
There are no ads. If sponsored listings are ever introduced, they will be clearly labelled and kept separate from organic ranking.
Live sync status is on the sources page. Administrators can sign in at /admin.
